WRITING
Writing is in Gina's genes. Her mother and grandmother are bestselling Aussie authors, and she's following hot on their bibliophilic heels.
Her grandmother, Charmian Clift, was an author, essayist and Australia's first female columnist in the early 60's. Charmian married George Johnstone (My Brother Jack) and they lived on Hydra with Leonard Cohen and a bunch of bohemian expats in the 60's. Charmian's teenage indiscretion, an illigitimate daughter, was given up for adoption. This is Gina's mum, Suzanne Chick, who, after finally discovering her mother's identity at 48, wrote her own book, Searching For Charmian, which was shortlisted for the NBC Banjo Award. Gina's articles have been published in The Guardian, news.com.au, Mamamia and SBS online. Her memoir, We Are The Stars, will be published on October 2nd in Australia/ New Zealand by Simon & Schuster. Signed pre-orders are available now using the links above. Subscribe free to Unmet Friends, Gina's blog on Substack. REWILDING
Rewilding is the remembering of the wisdom of our hunter gatherer ancestors. Wild things live by internal authority, getting their needs met on the landscape by being deeply connected the the vast web of life that is the nervous system of our living planet. Gina helps adults and kids learn to be at home in the wild. This is a twofold process: we need to be at peace with the wilderness inside to be at one with the wilderness outside. Gina facilitates wilderness rites of passage in the form of Vision Quests, or solo bush vigils with Lee Trew and Karina Bontes Forward. She and Lee run Thrive Survival Quests, and Rewild Your Child family camps in Budawang country on the NSW south coast. |
5RHYTHMS DANCE
5Rhythms® dance meditation is a powerful somatic practice from the late Gabrielle Roth. By giving movement to what's arising moment to moment in the body, and dancing how we feel instead of how we look, we bring presence to arising feelings, wounds, hurts, projections, meeting those things keeping us stuck in life, and a language for understanding their deeper stories and gifts. By giving them breath and movement we can achieve more in an hour of dance than many years of talk therapy. Gina's classes are high energy, potent and a whole lotta fun. EnTrance is a 3 hour monthly class at Balmain in Sydney. Her workshops are a deep dive into what is possible when we say yes to all of ourselves. Her retreats take place all over the world, exploring connection in all forms. They include Heart of the Huntress, Women Unchained, Wild Instinct, Goodbye Good Girl, Hello Wild Woman and her current retreat 5 Wounds of Connection. MUSIC
Gina is a poetic singer-songwriter who recorded her first album during lockdown in 2020, produced by respected Aussie artist Paul Greene, through his label Sounds Delicious.
That album (Gigi and Lovetank) is slated for release in late 2023. Think Massive Attack meets Sia. Gina's earthy campfire songs about nature connection are designed to weave multiple harmonies into a single connecting experience for a village to sing together. These songs have travelled around the world and can be heard in various communites, are sung by choirs and madrigal groups and touch whomever hears them. Check out this impromptu video of Gina with two siren sisters singing Gina's sing Love This Dirt after about 5 minutes of practice. Thanks to Elisha and Kate, and Luis for his videography.

ALONE AUSTRALIA
In 2022, Gina was one of ten participants in the first series of Alone Australia, made by iTV and screened on SBS in 2023. (pic by Riima Daher)
10 Aussies were dropped with 10 basic survival items, into the Tasmanian wilderness, in the middle of winter, to survive as long as possible on their wits, grit and skill, filming themselves with camera gear they took with them. No film crew. No on site producers. No idea how anyone else was doing. Totally, utterly alone. Participants could leave by tapping a red button, or be medically extracted. The last person standing won $250 000. After 67 days dancing in the moss, singing to lady larila the platypus, luring fish to her bait with the fishy fishy dance and unforgettable moments of searing vulnerability, Gina was that last person standing, and the second woman to win an Alone solo challenge. With deepest gratitude to the palawa people, the original custodians of lutruwita, Tasmania. And with endless love to the nine other lunatics out there baring their souls, and deep thanks to SBS and iTV for such an amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity. SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS
